From the point of view of child and youth experts, pocket money for children makes sense in any case.
The height is not important.
However, there are guidelines.
Many children are happy about pocket money.
A representative Forsa survey last year showed that slightly more than half of all parents regularly give their children pocket money.
The parents make the amount largely dependent on the age of the children (63 percent), as reported by the German Press Agency (dpa).
Why pocket money is important for children

From the point of view of child and youth experts, pocket money for children is important above all because it would teach them how to deal with money at an early age.
Three conditions should be met:
An important prerequisite is that the children are allowed to really economize with the pocket money, i.e. that they are allowed to decide for themselves what they buy with their pocket money or whether they save it for a wish that they want to fulfill with it, for example.
In addition, the children should receive the smaller sums at regular intervals so that they can then dispose of them freely.
In this way, the children also learn to divide up the money over a certain period of time.
Pocket money is usually paid once a week for smaller children and monthly for older children.
According to the recommendation of the German Youth Institute (DJI), the children should also receive the pocket money from their parents unsolicited and not linked to their behavior.
This is also about reliability.
The children should be able to look forward to the small sum and be able to count on the amount.
How much should pocket money for children be, according to experts?
According to the DJI, children are particularly happy to spend their pocket money on toys, magazines or sweets - and young people on fast food, going out and their mobile phones.
The amount of pocket money "does not play the decisive role" - instead it is also important that parents talk to their children about the financial situation of the family and the amount of pocket money and "not evaluate what the children use the money for".
Youth welfare offices and the family ministry support an age-related amount that increases with age.
The recommendations for pocket money from the family portal of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens and Women can be read online.
"The numbers are based on an expertise from the German Youth Institute," as it says there.
The DJI recently published a recommendation on its website for 2020 as to how much pocket money it can be depending on the age group of children and young people.
