The streaming giant Netflix advertises an unlimited selection of titles, but not all of them are displayed.
With a simple trick, the offer can be "expanded".
Kassel – The remake of “Nothing New in the West” won four Oscars at the 2023 awards ceremony.
Word should have gotten around by now that the award-winning war film can be seen free of charge for subscribers on Netflix.
But did you also know that there are numerous other excellent films and series on the platform?
No?
Then it may be because the titles were not displayed to you - not even in the "Insider tips for you" category.
And yet they are part of the range of the streaming service.
Just like a dozen others.
Netflix trick: numerous films and series are hidden behind the algorithm
Thriller, comedy or action?
Film, series or a documentary?
The selection of the streaming provider Netflix leaves nothing to be desired.
According to a
Spiegel
report, the platform offered around 1,500 titles more than five years ago.
With a simple trick, however, several more can be "unlocked" - without any additional costs for subscription holders.
There is a catch, however.
On the start page and in the individual genres, in addition to the top recommendations - based on reviews and ratings from users - the list of titles that the Netflix algorithm creates personalized after a while is primarily displayed.
Much of the actual selection is hidden.
In order to be able to call up the entire bandwidth of the media library, special codes defined by Netflix are required.

If you can't decide or if you don't have enough choice, you can use a trick to "unlock" a number of other titles on Netflix.

Extensive Netflix selection: The genres and subgenres are hidden behind these codes
As the technology magazine
Chip.de
wrote, Netflix defines all genres and subgenres with a sequence of numbers.
Comedies are summarized under the code 6548.
If you want to laugh but also need a little heartache, you can find all the rom-coms (romantic comedies) under 5475. Here is an overview of all the codes:

Sci Fi / Fantasy | 1492 | genre |

In order to view the respective genre selection, the respective number code must simply be appended to the end of the web link.
What is important is that the codes of the subgenres replace those of the genre and do not line up with them.
That is how it goes:
Open Netflix in the web browser and after logging in, simply click on a genre tab.
The web link then looks like this (“XXXX” only stands for the placeholder of the respective genre or subgenre):
https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/xxxx
With the above list of codes for the individual title categories, all secret films, series and documentaries can now be accessed.
Simply replace the placeholder in the link with the appropriate code.
Simple trick expands Netflix selection — but there's also a catch
From this, the catch can be seen at first glance: the trick only works if Netflix is accessed via the Internet browser.
Of course, the secret titles with the codes cannot be displayed via the apps on the smart TV or cell phone.
But if you don't mind a small detour via the browser, you can browse the web in peace.
And make a note of his new, hidden Netflix pearls for a cozy movie or series evening.
Simply save it under "My List", switch to the other end device and play it before popular titles are no longer available.
