"We care that Italian artists and performers are remunerated fairly, in line with Italian law. We have worked to find fair solutions and ensure that Italian artists are remunerated adequately, including through the organizations that represent them. From many years, we have had an agreement with Nuovo Imaie, the Italian collecting society that represents the majority of artists and performers. We have tried to find an agreement with Artisti 7607; however, Artisti 7607 has not yet identified the performance of the artists they represent in films and series available on our service, nor published a fee for streaming audiovisual services", is the official position of Netflix on the action of Artists 7607.
The collecting society founded by Elio Germano, Neri Marcorè, Claudio Santamaria, Michele Riondino, Alberto Molinari, Carmen Giardina has instructed its lawyers to initiate legal action against the well-known streaming platform.
An article in Repubblica today delves into the matter by giving voice to the president of collecting Cinzia Mascoli who explained how the action against Netflix is a consequence: "The platform has not provided complete data relating to the exploitation of audiovisual works, views and revenues achieved over several years. All essential elements to obtain adequate and proportionate remuneration for artists. We expect support and supervision from the institutions to protect our rights. The rules exist today, we just need to enforce them".
Also Paolo Calabresi, one of the founding members of Artisti 7607 and councilor of Unita, another association of actresses and actors that protects the professional dignity of its members.
"We have long been aware of the need to counter the overwhelming power of the large streaming platforms to protect the professional dignity and rights of performing artists in our sector".
