(ANSA) - WACO, MARCH 25 - Two migrants who were traveling in a group of about fifteen people on a freight train in Texas died, probably "suffocated": the Police announced.
Officers from the Uvalde Police Department intervened yesterday following an anonymous phone call according to which a group of migrants were "suffocating" on board a train.
The convoy was then stopped east of Knippa, a small South Texas community near the city of San Antonio.
"About 15 immigrants needed immediate medical attention, five were airlifted to hospitals in the San Antonio area, five were transported to hospitals in the area and their conditions are unknown", while "two of the immigrants were declared dead", reads a statement from the police.
In the area where the freight train was stopped, late afternoon temperatures reached 30 degrees Celsius, according to KSAT.com, a San Antonio affiliate of ABC TV.
