Vanessa Seward, from sewing to painting


The first personal exhibition of her paintings, an ode to feminine grace, produced especially for the Mouvements Modernes gallery, proves that the fashion designer masters the brush as well as the pencil.

“When I draw faces, I like to capture this rather explosive mixture, in women, of vulnerability and determination.

I see it particularly in Anna Prudhomme, the daughter of one of my friends with whom I studied at Studio Berçot.

I painted it from a photo I had taken.

This young girl has charm and an unconscious beauty that I find interesting to capture on the canvas.

“Isabella Rossellini is a woman who inspires me.

Like Diane Keaton, she knows how to age.

You only have to look at her Instagram account to see how funny and fresh she remains.

It's a pastel on paper made from a photo.

My mother is a painter, and I always thought that I could not draw, except for fashion sketches.

But I trained during confinement and it clicked.

I like to paint because I feel free to create without constraints.”
