(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 26 - Honduras has announced the rupture of diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
11 days after the South American country announced that it would establish official ties with Beijing.
"Foreign Minister Enrique Reina - reads a note from the Foreign Ministry - on the instructions of the President of the Republic Xiomara Castro, communicated to Taiwan the decision to interrupt diplomatic relations" between the two territories.
Taiwan's foreign minister accused Honduran President Xiomara Castro of "feeding illusions" about Chinese promises of financial aid.
"President Castro and his government have illusions about China - said Minister Joseph Wu - and raised the question of the change of recognition during the election campaign. China has convinced Honduras (to break diplomatic relations with Taiwan, ed) with financial incentives ".
