(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, MARCH 26 - New dough for Twitter in the era of Musk.

Portions of the platform's source code, the code of the computer on which the social network runs, have been leaked online, according to a lawsuit filed by Twitter.

The New York Times writes it, underlining that it is a rare and important exhibition of intellectual property, at a time when the company is struggling to reduce technical problems and recover from commercial debacles under Elon Musk.

Twitter moved on Friday to remove the leaked code by posting a copyright infringement notice to GitHub, an online collaboration platform for software developers where the code was posted.

GitHub complied with the warning and removed the code the same day.

It's unclear how long the leaked code had been online, but it appears it had been public for at least several months, though Twitter only recently became aware of it.

The twittering company also asked the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to order GitHub to identify the person who shared the code and any other person who downloaded it.

And he's launched an internal investigation, where whoever did it is supposed to have already left the company last year, when Musk launched mass layoffs.

One concern is that the code, usually kept in the strictest secrecy, includes security vulnerabilities that could give hackers or other motivated parties the means to extract user data or halt the site.
