(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 27 - A Franco Frattini commemorative stamp was issued today, relating to the value of the ''tariff B zone 1'' (ordinary direct mail to Europe and the Mediterranean Basin) equal to 1.25 euro.

    The cartoon reproduces a portrait of Franco Frattini in the foreground of the flags of Italy and the European Union.

    The illustrative bulletin that accompanies the issue is signed by his wife Stella and their daughter Carlotta and summarizes the salient steps in Frattini's career: in 1986 he became the youngest State Councilor and subsequently became legal adviser to the Minister of the Treasury Giuliano Amato and the Vice-President of the Council, Claudio Martelli, in the sixth Andreotti government (1990-1991).

    In the following years he became general secretary at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (1994) and Minister for Public Administration and Regional Affairs (1995-1996).

Elected deputy, he chairs the Parliamentary Committee for information and security services and for state secrecy (COPACO, 1996).

    Re-elected in 2001, he returned to the civil service with responsibility for the coordination of information and security services (2001-2002) and was twice Minister of Foreign Affairs (2002-2004; 2008-2011);

he will be Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Justice, Security and Freedom (2004-2008).

From 2012 he became President of the Italian Society for International Organization and will be a member of the Commission for constitutional reforms (2013-2014).

In January 2022 he was appointed President of the Council of State, after having been Deputy President.

He will preside over the institute until his premature death on December 24, 2022.
