(ANSA) - SAN PAULO, MARCH 27 - The signing of more than 20 different agreements between Brazil and China has been postponed until President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva can go to Beijing.
The Brazilian head of state, according to official sources, is still recovering from bilateral pneumonia and follows the rest prescription made by the presidential medical staff.
"All Brazilian government activities in China have been suspended," said Agriculture Minister Carlos Favaro, who is already in China for a series of meetings with local industry representatives.
Lula was supposed to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday, but already last Saturday an official statement announced that the trip was suspended due to his clinical picture deriving from pneumonia.
President Xi himself expressed solidarity with Lulariba, renouncing the willingness to hold the meeting on an "opportune date" for both governments.
"The date of the next trip remains subject to the availability of the Chinese", said the Minister of Communications, Paulo Pimenta.
The minister himself reported that Lula is undergoing physiotherapy treatments in the presidential residence and that the clinical picture is registering "very good improvements".
China is Brazil's main trading partner and alone accounts for nearly half of its trade balance assets.
The two countries aim to sign new agreements in the agri-food, science and technology, education and culture sectors as well as discussions are underway for Brazil's possible accession to the 'Belt and Road Initiative'.
