Various cashiers from supermarkets and other retail outlets spoke up anonymously: Which customer sayings annoy you the most?

Munich - Most Germans are customers in supermarkets and other retail outlets.

In this respect, it is quite exciting to find out what the other side thinks.

A few months ago, there was a thread on Reddit that got a lot of attention: more than 400 comments were received in the first nine days on the topic "What are Go/NoGo slogans at the checkout?".

Supermarket/retail cashier: Friendliness should be king

Of course, it is not possible to check whether the anonymous users really work in retail - but there is no reason for doubt either.

Especially when it gets detailed.

In fact, several people who can thankfully do without customer sayings spoke up.

But friendliness should certainly play a role.

And a minimum of nice, goal-oriented communication, this user let slip: "It annoys me every time when a customer wants to pay by card but can't even say so.

Or when you greet customers and they don't greet you back.

Disrespectful."

Employee says she has heard every saying before - and finds one particularly bad

A woman who said she was working as a sales consultant in an electronics store a month earlier was particularly clear: "I can say from experience that I've heard that saying before and of course I smile very nicely at everyone.

Once the customer is gone, but roll your eyes.

Sometimes an ironic 'Man, I've never heard him before' slips out.

There are also these: 'I don't usually give out my autograph for free.'

'Oh, I can wallpaper my wall with the receipt', 'I didn't want to buy the whole shop', 'Let's see if there's any money left' and much more."

Later, the user came up with something else that she finds particularly terrible.

"Another thing that came up, which is really bad: Money is checked, tester beeps, bill has to go through again.

Customer:

'I printed it myself this morning.'

HA HA HA you prankster!!!!!1!11!”

Another cashier said something similar: “Go sayings are 'have a nice day' or 'have a nice end of the day' (if it's just before the shop closes).

If you can manage it without coming across as creepy, then serious compliments (hairstyle, earrings, etc.) are also acceptable.

Takes away a bit of the alienation one experiences at the checkout.

But really only if it doesn't come across as creepy (shut up if in doubt).

Otherwise almost all other things are superfluous, especially 'funny' sayings.

No matter how original you think you are, we already know the saying.”

She also has an example ready that she calls "my hell": "'Receipt?'

- 'No thanks, I won't get the money back anyway rofl lol xd hahaha laugh kick.'”

But the Reddit thread does have some little laughs ready.

The short exchange of words when the cashier prepares the device for cash payment gets numerous likes - and the answer to "You can" is "No, unfortunately I have to".

Supermarket cashiers are annoyed by rolling bottles and cans

Another nerve issue for cashiers was also discussed: "Place bottles/cans on the belt so that they roll back and forth," writes one user.

There have already been public appeals in the past to refrain from doing this.

They didn't seem to have reached everyone yet.

The user added: "Also horrible when these get started rolling (down the shelf) after scanning, unfortunately most people do this at the register and it takes master reflexes to stop the cans before they get shaken up." "

Back to the topic of friendliness: Another user, who probably doesn't work in retail himself, said: "Real eye contact, a smile and a nice saying like 'have a nice weekend' or 'have a nice end of the day' are more than enough." In the end it stayed open whether funny sayings are really not welcome at all cashiers.

But it is always a nice appearance.

At Kaufland, there was a scandal at the checkout a few months ago – tears probably even flowed.
