What are the costs for the first question?
If the bat should cost one euro more than the ball, what is the solution?
A ball and a bat together cost 1.10 euros. The bat costs one euro more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
Answer: 5 cents (Most answer 10 cents).
If the ball were to cost 10 cents and the bat was to cost one euro more, then the total costs would be 1.20 euros.
So that the total cost is 1.10 euros, the ball must cost 5 cents.
When it comes to question two, too, many can be led in the wrong direction.
Five machines produce five things in five minutes.
If you have a hundred machines and you want a hundred things, how much time elapses?
If five machines take five minutes to produce five things, how long would it take 100 machines to produce 100 things?
Answer: Five minutes (many answer 100 minutes).
One machine needs five minutes for one product, two machines also need five minutes for two products.
So 100 machines also need five minutes for 100 products.
How many water lilies does it take to cover half of the lake?
Read the question correctly.
There are water lilies in a lake. Every day the number of leaves doubles. If it takes 48 days for the lily pads to cover the entire lake, how long does it take for the leaves to cover half of the lake?
Answer: 47 days (many answer 24).
After 48 days the lake is completely covered.
The amount of water lilies doubles every day.
So if the lake is completely covered after 48 days and you want to know when the lake is half covered, then the solution is that you need one day less, i.e. 47 days.
