(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, MARCH 27 - Israeli premier BenyaminNetanyahu has decided to suspend the second and third readings in the Knesset of the justice reform and allow "time" for a broader examination in the next parliamentary session to "reach an agreement".

He said so in a speech to the nation.

Netanyahu justified the decision in "the name of national responsibility", but reiterated that "the reform must be done".

After recalling the biblical episode of the two mothers who claim their son before King Solomon and the choice of one of them who does not want to tear the child apart, Netanyahu said that "he does not want to tear the people apart".

"I appealed to dialogue and I remember that we are not facing enemies but brothers. There must be no civil war".

So he attacked "a minority of extremists ready to tear apart the country, who use violence, set fires, foment civil war and call for disobedience".

"Israel - Netanyahu underlined - cannot exist without an army, disobedience is the end of our state. I demand from the army leaders to oppose this and not show understanding, it must be stopped".

"Yesterday I read the letter from Benny Gantz who engages in a dialogue and I do too. There is the possibility of taking time. I give the opportunity for a dialogue, we want to make the necessary adjustments".

(HANDLE).
