Schnabel, 'the situation is fragile but the banks are strong'

(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 27 - "We look very seriously at the financial turbulence of the past few weeks", but if we look at the banks and the capital and liquidity situation "they seem very strong and at the moment we have no real concerns about stability".

But "the situation is extremely fragile, we monitor tensions closely and remain ready to provide liquidity if necessary": said Isabel Schnabel, member of the executive committee of the ECB, speaking at a Columbia event.

Schnabel explained that before the next meeting the ECB will have to analyze the impact of the turbulence on inflation and the transmission of monetary policy.
