(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 28 - A "moved" thought to the victims of terrorism and their families, "who have been waiting for years, together with the whole country, for a response from the French justice system", accompanied by the acknowledgment of a decision taken "in full autonomy" by the judges beyond the Alps and by the awareness that in this matter "Italy has done everything in its power".

Thus the Minister of Justice reacts to the sentence of the French Cassation which denied the extradition of 10 former terrorists.

"Those who then did not hesitate to kill now 'feel the need to come to terms with their responsibilities and have the courage to contribute to the truth'", says Nordio adopting the words of Luigi Calabresi, son of the commissioner killed 51 years ago.

"Minister Dupond-Moretti understood our need for truth and justice and, by proceeding with our extradition requests, testified to the full trust of the French Government in our judiciary", underlines the Minister of Justice, which he defines, figures in hand, as "very profitable" and judicial cooperation between the two countries has been "strengthened": in 2021 alone, 52 people were handed over from France to Italy and the same number from Italy to France in execution of a European arrest warrant.
