He was 94 years old. He worked for years in the writing of the Clarín newspaper. He published 32 books and was awarded the Pen of Honor by the National Academy of Journalism.

With an outstanding career in the media, he worked in almost all the air TV channels, in important radio stations and for years he worked in the newsroom of the Clarín newspaper.

Gómez, who published 32 books and was decorated by numerous countries,

was also Argentina's ambassador to Egypt, Kenya and Sweden

, in addition to other public functions. 

Born in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Flores, he went through Clarín at different times and performing different roles: he was

an editorial writer, editorial secretary and correspondent in the United States

.

In 2018, the National Academy of Journalism awarded him the Pluma de Honor award in recognition of his commitment to the exercise of the profession and to the defense of freedom of expression.

“The social function of the press is to describe reality, knowing that the quality of democracy also depends on the quality of journalists and the media, since the legitimate exercise of freedom of information requires truthful facts in order not to disappoint the public. society's right to be duly informed," he said on that occasion.

In addition, he cited Gabriel García Márquez's phrase that journalism "is the most beautiful profession in the world" but warned that "its exercise is subject to pressure, it can be very dangerous, it requires cultural quality and the imperative need to transmit credibility".

On that occasion, the distinction was given by Hermenegildo "Menchi" Sábat and Magdalena Ruiz Guiñazú. 

In addition to being ambassador, among the many positions he held in the Foreign Ministry, he did so in Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Athens (Greece), Pretoria (South Africa), Cape Town (South Africa), New York (at the UN) and Washington DC ( at the Argentine embassy).


He also carried out special missions in Lima, Bogotá, Cartagena, Managua, Mexico, Santo Domingo, San José de Costa Rica, Brasilia, Quito, La Paz, Asunción, Caracas, Guatemala, Havana, Montevideo, Santiago, Madrid, Rome, Paris, Budapest, Warsaw, Prague, Geneva, Bern, Moscow, Belgrade, Vienna, Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Algiers, Rabat, Jeddah and Tunis.
