(ANSA) - AOSTA, MARCH 29 - "On the issue of doubling the Mont Blanc tunnel, we are totally against all levels of French institutions".
This was stated to ANSA by the mayor of Chamonix (France) Eric Fournier, who is also the special adviser with responsibility for the environment, climate and energy for the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
With respect to "not doubling" Fournier explains: "I have a written commitment from the three previous French transport ministers".
Furthermore, the current holder of the dicastery, Clément Beaune, in November 2022, during a meeting in Paris, "told me very clearly that 'this doubling is not topical'".
The doubling of the tunnel between Italy and France - hoped primarily by Confindustria - is a topical issue given the long periods of closure expected in the coming years to allow for the restoration of the vault.
