Some are satisfied with their salary, others urgently want a salary increase.
Not unimportant is often the question of what you get in comparison.
How does your own salary compare to other employees?
Many employees ask themselves this question not only within a company, but also within their own industry, where salaries sometimes vary greatly.
This comparison is important for corresponding salary or wage claims - it is not for nothing that career experts advise you to find out about the wages customary in the industry in order to support your own salary claim.
The salary report from the Stepstone
careers platform shows, for example, in which sectors you earn particularly well or comparatively little
.
Is the salary above or below average?
To classify what salary one is moving where, the average earnings can – further considered – provide an orientation.
The annual average gross salary of employees is around 38,728 euros, of which 25,583 euros
average net salary, such as
Kununu.com
describes in a message.
Which means "that just over a third of the average gross salary is deducted".

Net household income: “upper, middle or lower class”
If it goes beyond one's own professional environment, the figures from the German Economic Institute are also interesting for the classification of income in comparison.
According to a statement from 2019, an IW expert explained: “If we determine the strata using the household net income, then in the year under review a single person with a monthly net income of between 1,121 euros and 1,495 euros belongs to the low-income middle.
With a net income of 1,496 euros to 2,804 euros, a single person belongs to the middle class in the narrower sense.
Between EUR 2,805 and EUR 4,673, they belong to the high-income middle class and with more than EUR 4,673 to the relatively rich.” There are also major differences in the distribution of wealth, as another calculation shows.
Salary: Wages often cannot keep up with inflation
Apart from comparisons, inflation also plays a major role when it comes to salaries.
In January and February, too, consumer prices were 8.7 percent above the level of the same month last year.
Many employees complain that wages have not risen sufficiently at the same time.
Last but not least, the increased food prices in the supermarket are causing problems for many consumers.
Quite a few also know the feeling of having to turn over every cent twice.
There are various calculations for a rough estimate of when the poverty line is crossed.

Salary negotiation: address inflation compensation?
Rhetorical tricks can sometimes help in your own salary negotiations, as career advisors say.
Instead of talking about a salary increase, one could, for example, bring up a possible "inflation compensation" or a "salary adjustment" in a conversation with the supervisor.
