Five years ago, the film had almost left EuropaCorp on the straw, failing to recover its costs. Broadcast since March 24 on Netflix, it prances at the top of the ranking of the most viewed films.

"A space turnip without originality or relief"

, a "

parade of intergalactic postcards with dumb syncretism"

, a "

story that lacks breath

",

"French-style space opera that leaves you speechless".

.. Criticism in France was almost unanimous when the film Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets,

directed by Luc Besson, was

released .

Not to mention the mixed reception of the blockbuster in English-speaking countries.

EuropaCorp's blockbuster, with a budget of 190 million dollars, however, is experiencing a new lease of life today.

Broadcast since March 24 on Netflix, it took the lead in the daily ranking of the most viewed films in France, ahead of

Jumanji

which dominated the ranking last week.

A nice revenge for this adaptation of the comic strip by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières which brings together Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne to embody Valérian and Laureline.

Inspired by the sixth adventure in the cult saga of the ninth art,

The Shadow Ambassador,

the film

is set in the

28th century.

Our two spatio-temporal agents have the mission of maintaining order on human territories.

But a new task awaits them: the Minister of Defense summons them to go on an expedition to the intergalactic city Alpha.

This metropolis is full of species from the four corners of the cosmos, bringing the richness of their culture and their know-how.

But a dark force haunts Alpha and threatens its existence.

Valérian and Laureline will have to fight until the end to preserve this city-planet and beyond, the universe.

Tackling Valérian was a real challenge, and not just financial, for Luc Besson: 7 film sets, 250 people for the set, dozens of trades for the costumes (seamstresses, embroiderers, etc.) or 2,500 drawings made by the storyboard.
