Microsoft and Zoom have announced a series of artificial intelligence-based additions to their respective video calling apps, which have become essential for meetings during the pandemic phase and the remote working boom.

Microsoft will use AI to streamline collaborative work, updating users on what happened before joining a meeting or chat, even answering questions during the discussion.

If a person enters a video or even just a voice call late, he will be able to access a summary document, updated in real time, where he will find not only the transcript of the discussion but its focal points, a sort of notes for resume the threads of the speech from its beginning.

In addition to this, Microsoft has also set itself the goal of making Teams faster and less energy-intensive.

To achieve this, it teamed up with independent company GigaOm, proving that launching the app and joining meetings is already twice as fast, while memory consumption has decreased by half.

The public preview of the new Teams is available now for commercial customers with availability for others planned for the end of the year.

Similar additions have been made by Microsoft's main competitor, Zoom.

The first feature that uses artificial intelligence is 'Zoom IQ chat compose' and comes from a collaboration with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGpt.

The tool allows you to generate chat replies based on the context of the conversation, being able to choose the length of the message and the tone.

'Zoom IQ email compose' instead allows you to take advantage of artificial intelligence to write the draft of an email while 'Zoom IQ meeting summary' generates a summary of the meetings, which can then be shared via email, chat or on the calendar.
