Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro returned to Brazil today
from the United States where he had moved 89 days ago, on the eve of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's inauguration in power.
A plane from the Brazilian company Gol, reports the portal of the Fiolha de Sao Paulo newspaper, landed at Brasilia international airport at 6:38 am (11:38 am Italian time).
A difficult path begins for the former conservative head of state during which he will try to establish himself as leader of the opposition to Lula's government, but at the same time he will have to defend himself from various judicial investigations concerning, among other things, the assault by his supporters on buildings of power in Brasilia on January 8 and the ownership of jewels received as a gift from the Saudi monarchy.
In view of the arrival of Bolsonaro - expected in a climate of tension due to the danger of new disturbances after the assault on the institutions of last January 8 - the authorities of the State of Brasilia had prepared various security measures in anticipation of possible
disturbances
committed by sympathizers of the former president.
Among these is the prohibition of transit in the main street that leads to the area of the buildings of the institutions stormed in January by the Bolsonarista mobs.
Bolsonaro's return came as current president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is currently at rest in his official residence and not in the government palace, due to pneumonia.
