(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 30 - "Pope Francis rested well during the night. The clinical picture is gradually improving and the planned treatments are continuing".
This was stated in a statement by the director of the Holy See's press office, Matteo Bruni.
"This morning after having breakfast, he read some newspapers and went back to work. Before lunch he went to the small chapel of the private apartment, where he gathered in prayer and received the Eucharist".
According to unofficial sources, the lung infection from which Pope Francis is suffering is "mild", a "bronchitis" that has not produced effusions, as could be verified with a CAT scan of the heart and lungs.
According to the same hospital sources, the infection was caused by a virus.
However, it is not yet known how many days of hospitalization Pope Francis will have to do at Gemelli, where he has been hospitalized since yesterday afternoon, also because Bergoglio has gained weight and this element does not help in dealing with the infection.
