He spoke of a motivation "that offends us" Gemma Calabresi Milite, widow of Commissioner Luigi Calabresi, assassinated by some members of Lotta continua in 1972. A few days after the sentence of the French Supreme Court confirming the refusal of the extradition of ten former Italian terrorists , including Giorgio Pietrostefani, one of those responsible for the murder of Commissioner Calabresi, the woman spoke to the students of the Archiepiscopal Institute of Trento.

The motivation for the sentence, explained Gemma Calabresi Milite, "says that it is absurd to put people in prison because today they have rebuilt their lives and have a family. This offends us,

because our families count for less.

Perhaps the motivation should have been different, with more respect for those who have suffered". Despite this, said the widow, taking up the concepts she expressed in the book 'The Crack and the Light', "Today I pray that those responsible for my husband's death have peace of heart.

Forgiveness is really a gift, even the word says it.

When you succeed, you give it, and you give it with your heart".

Gemma Calabresi Soldier retraced the meeting with her husband, who had - she said - "an Alberto Sordi-like humor" and then recounted what happened on the morning of May 17, 1972 , when her husband, after exchanging the tie he was wearing for a white tie, shortly before leaving the house for the last time, said to her: "This is the symbol of my purity".

"It was a testament", said the widow addressing the students, to whom she launched an appeal: "When you are in a group, don't become a herd, keep a critical thought, a free thought. Before condemning a person, get informed, try to to know, to know, to understand. Because in those years many shouted, but very few thought".

After the release of the book, on the sidelines of many public meetings "many people told me, with tears in their eyes, 'I too shouted at your husband in the demonstration'", recalled the widow Calabresi speaking of the accusations against her husband for the case of the anarchist Pinelli.

Regarding the cause of beatification for Commissioner Calabresi, which has been discussed and which is still at this moment, he however said that "for me he was an everyday saint, not a saint to be proclaimed by the Church".
