Two weeks after
the stop of Siae music on the Meta platforms
, a question and answer from the two realities to the joint Culture and Transport Commissions, in view of the table convened by the Ministry of Culture on April 6th.
"Meta's statement that 'Siae has refused to accept any offer that falls short of a 310% increase over the 2022 deal" is simply untrue.
As said in our hearing, which we decided to make public in a transparent manner unlike Meta, the new license is not comparable to the one signed in 2020 and any comparison in percentages is specious", said the president of the Società degli Autori Salvatore Nastasi , who added: "Meta was called Facebook and did not want to deal with the metaverse and its revenues and exploitations of our repertoire were not comparable to the current ones".
Mark Zuckerberg's company replies, through Angelo Mazzetti, Head of Institutional Affairs.
"The absence of Siae's music on the platform is due to the refusal to accept a temporary extension of the previous agreement. The last agreement between Siae and Meta expired on December 15, 2022 and already last August Meta contacted Siae to start the renewal negotiations The point where the negotiations broke off is the nature of the amount requested by Siae for the license starting from 2023. The first request was almost 4 times higher than the amount agreed by the parties until 2022, without any reason being given for this increase, nor having an appropriate economic model presented to support it.Considering that the licensed rights are substantially the same,
Siae's request is unjustified.
SIAE has refused to accept any offer less than a +310% increase.
We are not willing to close deals that are unreasonable from an economic and market point of view".
In the past few days, the restoration of the music of Soundreef, an alternative copyright collector founded in 2011, has begun on the Meta platforms. The company itself announced it.
The restoration concerns the catalog of artists of which Soundreef fully administers the rights, not shared by Siae.
