Final green light from the Eurochamber to the new rules against the so-called 'gender pay gap', the difference in wages between women and men.
The text was approved with 427 votes in favour, 79 against and 76 abstentions, and aims to tackle the gender pay gap.
The new rules, which are binding on the 27, require pay structures to be based on gender-neutral criteria, both in the private and public sectors.
In addition, gender-neutral job classification or evaluation systems should be introduced, as should vacancy notices and job naming.
"Gone are the days when people were paid less just for who they were. Today we have taken a quantum leap towards equality, especially for women, by linking the principle of equal pay to equal work."
So via Twitter the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, after the vote in the hall on the wage gap.
"An inclusive step that benefits everyone: employees, employers and our companies", adds Metsola.
