in 1998, who claimed to have had a 10-month relationship with Trump in 2006.
McDougal's case emerged strongly during the 2016 campaign in part thanks to an audiotape in which Trump discussed with his then-counsel Michael Cohen the payment to the former Playboy bunny, who claimed to have been in a relationship with Trump since 2006 to 2007, when Melania was pregnant and gave birth to Barron Trump.
In the audio, the former president could be heard telling her to pay her cash to buy the rights to her story in order to avert a possible sex scandal that would have threatened his run for the White House.
A key role in the McDougal affair was played by David Pecker, the editor (a friend of Donald Trump) of the National Enquirer.
Pecker himself appeared on at least two occasions before the grand jury.
