(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 30 - The Wagner mercenary group is "suffering a huge amount of losses in the Bakhmut area, the battle for the city has turned into a massacre for the Russians," said the chief of staff JointUS General Mark Milley to the House Armed Services Committee, quoted by CNN.
"It's probably 6,000 active mercenaries and another 20 or 30,000 recruits, many from prisons," Milley said.
"The Ukrainians are implementing a very effective defense which has proved costly for the Russians. Over the past 21 days, the Russians have made no progress on Bakhmut," he said.
