The ceremony for the delivery of the
Omri honors
conferred motu proprio by the President of the Republic
Sergio Mattarella
to citizens who have distinguished themselves for acts of heroism and civil commitment will be held this morning at the Quirinale.
Established with the Law of 3 March 1951, n.
178 is the first among the national orders and is intended to "reward merits acquired towards the nation in the fields of literature
,
the arts, the economy and in the disengagement of public offices and activities carried out for social, philanthropic and humanitarian purposes, as well as for long and reported services in civilian and military careers.".
The President of the Republic is the Head of the Order.
The Order, governed by a Council made up of a Chancellor, who presides over it, and ten members, is divided into the honorary degrees of: Knight of the Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, Knight.
The Knight Grand Cross may be awarded the decoration of Grand Cordon.
