Beijing raises its voice - and jets - for the meeting scheduled for tomorrow between Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The meeting will "further damage" relations between Beijing and Washington, a spokesman for the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles said in a statement.
The meeting, scheduled for tomorrow in California, "will seriously hurt the national feelings of 1.4 billion Chinese" and undermine "the political foundations of Sino-US relations," the spokesman said.
Beijing promised today to "firmly defend" its sovereignty.
China strongly opposes the meeting," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning. "China will firmly defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity," he added.
