Subbe trail Mount Tabor, 2 km

Mount Tabor rises high above its surroundings and its summit offers a beautiful view over the expanses of the lower Galilee.

Due to its special shape, Mount Tabor has been considered a holy mountain since ancient times.

Christians believe that this is where the "transformation" of Jesus took place.

Therefore, from the beginning of Christianity, the mountain became a place of pilgrimage and churches were built on it.

The walking route around the mountain passes between forest trees and overlooks the expanses of the lower Galilee and the valleys.

Before the walk, or at the end, it is recommended to visit the Great Church of the Transfiguration at the end of the road further from the parking lot.

This is one of the most beautiful and magnificent churches in Israel.

Opening hours of the church:

every day (except Sunday) from 9:00 to 12:00, 14:00 to 17:00.

Mount Tabor Nature Reserve

The northern and eastern sides of the mountain are immersed in natural forest trees typical of the lower Galilee area, medicinal white, common carob, common oak, these are Eretz Yisraeli and the gum goddess.

On the southern slope, we can see afforestation, a planted oak forest.

The reason for the differences - the angle of the sun's rays hitting the mountain.

The high radiation that the south face receives, caused that little natural vegetation developed.

Today - the area is wooded and shaded.

Description of the walking route

From the church parking lot we will start walking on the path marked with a black trail marker, which is near the big gate.

And we'll start circling the mountain.

We will walk along the black path south of the mountain and circle it from the east.

On the way we will pass the split of the paths with the blue path - we will continue to follow the path marked in black.

On the way we will pass a number of impressive lookouts that complete our 360 degree view of the surroundings.

At some point we will come to a fork in the paths with the path marked in green, we will continue straight (to the left) with the route marked in green until the end of the route at the point where we started - the church parking lot.

How to get there?

From Route 65, near the Gazit intersection, turn to Kfar Shabli, continue straight through all the squares on the main road until you reach the minibus terminal that goes up the mountain.

Pass it and then turn left with the signs to the Tabor on the winding road, until the outer church parking lot in front of the large stone gate on the right, where our trip begins and ends.

The bird trail was inaugurated on Pesach 2021 near the village of Neve Tsuf in the Binyamin region.

The Sde Ofra school guides of the Society for the Protection of Nature recommend the bird trail in Neve Tsuf.

Description of the route

Park the vehicle in the parking lot at the beginning of the route near the observation tower, from there you go down the road that goes down and connects to a controlled dirt path.

After a hundred meters there will be a right turn to a dirt path and straight after that turn right again and continue along the road on a height line, and walk on a path above the amazing wadi.

Opposite we see cliffs and a beautiful Mediterranean forest.

You reach a junction where the path turns into a goat path and you begin to descend into the wadi, there are signs along the descent to the spring.

On the path we will walk in the blooming and green nature, catalav trees, oak, pine and countless flowers of the season.

After the descent, you reach the wadi and in front of you will be the spring Ein Zuf, formerly called Ein Tulib and used by the British soldiers during the period when they ruled the country.

Tables have been placed there for the comfort of the travelers, then walk in the wadi towards the northeast until a split with a winding path that goes back up.

Points of interest along the route

: spring blossoms, an amazing Mediterranean forest, a beautiful wadi, a spring that has been cleaned and renovated in recent years, swings and benches, a few meters south of the spring there is a British guard structure, beacons ringing in the sky. In a rock from the British era.

We went for a walk.

The length of the walking route: about 2 and a half km circular, about an hour and a half walk.

Location: the settlement of Neve Tsuf-Halamish in Haval Binyamin, road 465.

Starting point: you drive to Neve Tsuf settlement, you can write "Neva Achi" on Wise - the location leads to the Neve Achi neighborhood, under the square that is at the junction of roads 450/465.

El Nahal Zohar and Mesed Zohar, 3 km

Nahal Zohar is in the south of the Judean Desert, near Neve Zohar and at the foot of Route 31 connecting Arad to the Dead Sea.

Like most streams in the Judean desert, Nahal Zohar is also a brook that only flows during a flood.

On our trip we enjoy walking in a canyon gorge, a bit of a challenge, heartwarming vegetation, a piece of history and archeology and, of course, desert tranquility.

What to do?

The instructors of Sde Ein Gedi School of the Society for the Protection of Nature recommend starting the trip near the Tamar Regional Council.

Through a gate we enter the route marked in green and marked the Israel Trail (orange, blue and white) and we will start walking up the stream, passing huge rocks, with the walls of a deep canyon by our side, which over the years has been created with the help of the tremendous power of water.

We will continue the walk and reach the bypass of Meflon, we will go up with the help of pegs carefully and safely.

After a few hundred meters we will reach an intersection where we will connect to a dirt road, cross the dirt road and continue along the markings in the stream channel winding between beautiful acacia trees and desert vegetation.

The stream paddles through the marl rocks and beside us we can see the rocks that sunk in the ancient sea, the 'Lake of the Tongue' - one of the previous incarnations of the Dead Sea, the sea spread over a huge area, and here in the area of Nahal Zohar and Nahal Yizrah nearby there was a real gulf, where light and soft rocks sunk , the marl rocks.

Beside us we see a hill built on it from the Zohar side - this is a small cliff on which a wall and a tower are built, in an archaeological excavation conducted there the building dates back to the Crusader and Mamluk periods, the purpose of a building in this remote area is as a customs station on the mail road that connected the main cities of that period - Gaza, and Karak in Jordan.

The vehicles will be waiting for us near the side.

Those of you who are interested in a longer trip - you can leave one car at the Tzuk Tamror overnight parking lot, and a second vehicle at the starting point of this route, and go down from the foot of Tzuk Tamror via 'Ma'ale Zaron' to the regional council.

Those of you who are interested in a short trip and a stroll in the area - you can go to Masad Zohar and walk among the acacia trees, in the area of Masad and at the back of the water near Masad.

Important highlights

Pay attention to the weather forecast - for fear of flooding, the trip in the river is not possible, in heat stress you must take a large amount of water for the trip.
