What does the Academy for Children's and Young Adult Literature do?
The German Academy for Children's and Young Adult Literature was founded on May 15, 1976 in Würzburg and has been based in the Franconian wine town of Volkach am Main for many years.
In 2006, on the occasion of the anniversary, the office moved into the baroque premises of the Schelfenhaus, which was built by Johann Georg Adam Schelf in 1719/20.

The main goal of the academy is to promote German-language children's and youth literature, in particular through the cooperation of science and practical work in the field of children's and youth books.
In addition to year-round events and projects for the communication of children's and young people's literature in Germany and abroad, the academy honors outstanding personalities in their field as well as works of children's and young people's literature.
The results of their work are documented in conference proceedings, brochures, an online encyclopedia, and on their website and social media channels.
The members of the academy are active in all areas of culture, politics and business.
