Attention Kaufland customers: the supermarket chain has launched a cheese recall.

Consuming them poses significant health risks - that's what it's all about.

Munich - Again and again manufacturers have to recall packaged products from supermarkets.

The reasons for this can be varied.

At Kaufland, a popular cheese is now being recalled because dangerous food germs have been detected.

Recall at the supermarket – Kaufland cheese contaminated with Listeria

Major recall campaign at the Kaufland supermarket chain: Listeria food germs were detected on a type of cheese.

As the manufacturer VIP Sales Italian Food Products GmbH published in a press release, the cheese "K-Favourites Gorgonzola DOP mild" is affected.

Listeria (Listeria monocytogenes) was detected in cheese packs with a best-before date of April 10, 2023.

Consumers who have purchased the product are strongly advised not to consume it.

The popular product was apparently not sold throughout Germany.

Only the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria are affected.

The manufacturer reports Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

Anyone who has bought the Gorgonzola cheese can return it to any Kaufland branch – the purchase price will be refunded.

Other cheeses from the manufacturer or Gorgonzola with other best-before dates are not affected.

Kaufland had to recall a pasta product last year because there were “sensory abnormalities” in the cheese.

After the cheese recall at Kaufland: Listeria can trigger this in the body

The urgent warning of listeria in Kaufland cheese is no coincidence.

“Listeria can lead to a flu-like illness.

This usually occurs within 14 days,” writes the manufacturer in the press release on the recall.

The consumer advice center also warns of foodborne germs.

Sausage products in particular are frequently contaminated with it.

The bacterium on the Kaufland cheese is called Listeria monocytogenes - it can trigger listeriosis in humans.

The infection is usually mild or even asymptomatic in healthy people.

These symptoms can occur with listeriosis:

  • Vomit

  • Diarrhea

  • Fever

  • body aches

  • Muscle aches

  • exhaustion

  • fatigue

However, listeria can be dangerous, especially for consumers with a weakened immune system.

Sick people, the elderly, newborns, people with an autoimmune disease and pregnant women should be careful.

The incubation period for listeriosis can be up to 70 days - sufferers usually notice it after three weeks.

The symptoms range from vomiting and diarrhea to fever and exhaustion.

If you have eaten the affected Kaufland cheese, belong to the risk group and recognize symptoms, you can consult your family doctor to be on the safe side.
