(ANSA) - SEOUL, 08 APR - North Korea said today that it had conducted a new test of a nuclear attack submarine drone, in response to joint military exercises by the South and the United States.
The test of this "strategic underwater weapon system" took place from April 4 to 7, the official KCNA news agency said.
The Haeil-2-type craft traveled a "simulated underwater distance of 1,000 kilometres," he added.
North Korea announced on March 23 a first test of this unprecedented device, which could "produce a large-scale radioactive tsunami".
The weapon "detonated accurately underwater," added the KCNA, stating that the test "demonstrates the reliability of the strategic submarine weapon system and its lethal attack capability."
Seoul and Washington conducted joint air maneuvers on April 5 using at least one American B-52H bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons, according to the
South Korean army.
Pyongyang believes that these exercises are evidence of an invasion of its territory and multiplies the claims of its armaments.
