Star Wars: a new trilogy announced at the cinema

2023-04-07T14:57:39.407Z

Without news from the franchise since the release of the last film in 2019, the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy finally confirms the return of Star Wars in theaters.

Three years after the theatrical release of episode 9,

The Rise of Skywalker

, the most famous franchise in the world is about to be reborn in cinemas with the announcement of a new trilogy.

On stage at the Excel London convention centre, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that three new

Star Wars

movies are in the works.

A huge – and good surprise – for the 60,000 spectators present in London this weekend during the Star Wars Celebration 2023 as well as for fans around the world.

Disney and Lucasfilm will therefore have taken their time before embarking on this new cinematic adventure, favoring the Disney+ streaming platform for three years for new releases from the

Star Wars

universe (

The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor

...)

The next three

Star Wars

movies will be mostly about the Jedi but probably won't form a common plot.

The first of them will evoke "the dawn of the Jedi", namely the appearance of the first Jedi mastering the force more than 20,000 years before the birth of Luke Skywalker!

The film will be entrusted to James Mangold, the director of the last

Indiana Jones

which will be released in theaters next June.

The second installment will take place in a more recent

Star Wars

era , that of the New Republic.

Directed by Dave Filoni (

Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett

), this film will make the connection between the current series -

The Mandalorian

and

Ahsoka

- and a new plot.

Finally, the final part of this trilogy will continue the story after The Rise of Skywalker, the last Star Wars film released in cinemas in 2019. It is the director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (

Miss Marvel

) who will conclude this sequence with the actress Daisy Ridley who will reprise her role as Rey Skywalker, the heroine of the final trilogy as she sets out to build a new Jedi Order.

Although no date has been confirmed by Disney, production should start this year for a release of the three films respectively scheduled for 2025, 2027 and 2029. May patience be with you!
