Öko-Test tested a total of 20 fragrance-free face creams.

Nine of them received a "very good", three failed mercilessly - the result:

  • Öko-Test takes a close look at face creams without perfume from various manufacturers (you can find more test reports here).

  • Three well-known products fail mercilessly.

  • The good news is that nine products receive the top rating.

For many, it is good for the nose and soul to apply a delicately scented cream in the morning.

However, Öko-Test warns that some people have such sensitive or damaged skin that scented creams irritate their skin.

For these people, it is particularly important to avoid all ingredients that are not absolutely necessary.

This definitely includes fragrances and essential oils.

So a good reason for Öko-Test to test face creams that do not contain perfume from the outset.

HEIDELBERG24 summarized the results of the test.

Öko-Test takes a close look at perfume-free face creams: This is how it was tested

Öko-Test bought 20 face creams with labels such as "without perfume", "0 percent perfume" or "fragrance-free" in drugstores, organic shops, pharmacies and online shops.

Seven of the face creams carry a natural cosmetics seal.

50 milliliters of the cheapest product cost 2.95 euros, the same amount of the most expensive 48.17 euros.

The creams were analyzed in specialized laboratories for controversial organohalogen compounds and formaldehyde/formaldehyde releasers.

Products with certain declarations were also examined for these.

The advertised percentages of niacinamide and urea were checked, as well as the denaturing agent diethyl phthalate (DEP), potentially carcinogenic aromatic mineral oil components (MOAH), and the element silver.

Problematic ingredients were also found in the creams, such as PEG/PEG derivatives, questionable UV filters, silicones and synthetic polymers.

Perfume-free face creams in the eco-test - allergy-causing substances discovered

While nine of the face creams tested were able to finish with the grade "very good", others were found to have irritating preservatives.

The laboratory has detected halogenated organic compounds

in "Neutrogena"

and

"Louis-Widmer"

cream .

Many substances from this group are considered allergenic.

Öko-Test also finds it critical that the "Salthouse Dead Sea Hyaluronic Face Cream 24h"

contains silver chloride.

Silver chloride is an antimicrobial substance.

Some manufacturers use it to counteract germs in the product.

However, silver can promote the development of resistance in bacteria, reports HEIDELBERG24.

There are silicones or other synthetic polymers in seven creams that are supposed to make the skin feel good after applying the cream.

The percentage of silicones in the creams of the brands "Neutrogena"

and "L'Oréal" is so high that Öko-Test devalues ingredients under the test result.

The testers are critical of silicones in cosmetics.

Not just because they pollute the environment.

But also because these fats do not fit into the skin's balance as well as natural oils.

In other creams in this test, jojoba, almond or grape seed oil ensure good moisturizing.

These products were able to convince Öko-Test:

  • Weleda Sensitive Face Cream Almond (23.25 euros) – “very good”

  • Isana Pure 24h Cream (3.99 euros) – “very good”

  • Nivea Soothing day care 24h moisture, LSF 15 (5.65 euros) - "very good"

  • Balea Niacinamide Day Cream LSF 30 (4.95 euros) - "good"

The entire result of the test of perfume-free face creams at Öko-Test can be found here (subject to a fee).

Perfume-free face creams at Öko-Test: These lotions see red

In the case of conventional cosmetics, three creams in signal red end up at the bottom of the table: "Inadequate" are the "L'Oréal Revitalift Moisturizing Care without Perfume"

the "Louis Widmer Day Cream Anti-Ageing 0% Perfume" and the "Neutrogena Hydro Boost Aqua Cream Perfume-Free" .

All three creams contain critical ingredients such as PEG/PEG derivatives, which act as emulsifiers in a cream and combine the fat and water phases: Some representatives of this group of substances can make the skin more permeable to foreign substances.

Öko-Test also recently tested cleansing milk – however, two products failed completely at the time.

In the test, two face creams are equipped with UV filters.

According to the Öko-Test, it does not make sense to use a cream with UV filters every day and to stress the skin with it.

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection also recommends applying sunscreen from a UV index of three, but this is hardly ever reached in our latitudes during the winter months.

Good news at the end: Many recipes only have a few ingredients.

This also reduces their irritation potential.

Recently, by the way, inexpensive cosmetics such as deodorant, body lotion and mascara have also been scrutinized - according to the Stiftung Warentest, these cosmetic products are "good" and inexpensive.
