Social networks, which changed our lives a few years ago from one end to the other, have many advantages, but along with them there are also quite a few disadvantages.

It's no secret that many teenagers in Israel are exposed to online and social media bullying, and it seems that no one is immune.

It turns out that in the current reality, anyone can be a victim of violence and bullying online, including some of the leading influencers in Israel, such as Or Yaakov, Shiri Popovitz and Alice Zano, who have hundreds of thousands of followers on social networks.

The three influencers who often suffered from abusive harassment and bullying online chose to deal with it in a slightly different way, and besides raising awareness of the issue on the various platforms, they took part in the Radiant Fashion Week FAC Tel Aviv 2023 held in collaboration with Samsung, the technology giant that works around the clock to promote their social and environmental agendas She advocates.

Jacob, Popovitz and Zano walked the modeling route during the fashion show together with other influencers in order to promote the important issue.

In between, we caught up with them for a short conversation about cyberbullying, and asked them for tips on dealing with the issue.

Have you experienced cyberbullying?

Or Jacob

: "I have had the chance to experience online bullying several times in my life. One of the times I remember the most was at the beginning of my career as a YouTuber. I chose to publish in stories a sentence that really helped me and still helps me in situations like this: even if you are the tastiest and ripest peach on the tree, there are people who just don't like peaches. This means that not everyone will always like my content or even me, and that's fine. Not everyone likes peaches. In addition, I would respond with humor and maturity to those shots and give tips to my audience. By the way, in the beginning, there were a lot of bad reactions; they laughed at me, said I was pathetic and bad, and left about every content I posted, but I remember I would say to myself 'so what, they are laughing at me now but in a few years they will be jealous', and I can guarantee that this is the case right now. There were some who went down on me privately and then wrote me a message a year later if I could send Happy birthday to them. The most important thing is to do what we love in life, learn and improve with a positive and curious attitude, believe in ourselves and act accordingly."

Shir Popovitz

: "The truth is that not long ago I had the chance to experience online bullying. I played the role of Daria Carmi in Tagad 2, a police investigator who investigates a case of rape. Following the role, I received a lot of comments from people who told me how much they hated me because they thought it was That I played the bad guy shows that this is how I am in life. I was attacked and there was even a guy who made a tiktok where he really attacked me and said how ugly, creepy and evil I am. I was very offended, and then I acted. I decided that I always answer and I also answered him in a video about what he does It's shaming and being published at the expense of putting others down. In the end, he turned to me and apologized, but these are things that are hard to forgive."

Alice Zano

: "Already as a child I experienced bullying when I immigrated to Israel. In the last few years since I became active in the entertainment industry and on the Internet, I have gained quite a few followers and with that sometimes come offensive reactions. Although I was prepared for it and knew that it was part of the package, this does not contradict the fact that I am a human being and I am not always immune to these reactions. How do I deal with it? I share Ash and close friendships, meditate and move on."

What tip would you give to a girl who suffers from cyberbullying?

Or Ya'akov

: "First, ask for help from an adult you trust. The internet sometimes blows things out of proportion and this can cause emotional upheaval. Secondly, there is Moked 105 that works for help in exactly these situations, so I always recommend contacting them. In addition, I would remind that girl that she is amazing And she is loved and the whole future is ahead of her. This situation is temporary and will soon pass. Sometimes people can be bad, but remember who you are and that you are wonderful and no word they write will change that. In addition, I would ask her to write down ten qualities she likes about herself, ten things she is grateful for and ask her what the dream is And then what does she want to do now to start promoting it? I would also mention that fulfillment is a long process and you have to be especially strong when there are bad reactions, because it passes and it doesn't mean anything about the future. I personally also delete certain reactions."

Popovitz song

: "My tip is to understand that when people come down on us, they actually recognize something that may be perceived as a weakness, but it is our strength. Like the guy who came down on me, I just suddenly realized that the words and this hatred indicate that I'm probably a really good actress if they believed that's how I am in life. First breathe, smile and love myself really, and then everything is small for us."

Alice Zano

: "I would tell her that if a discussion arises around her then she is probably special, and that it is important to share with the relatives and the parents and to understand that the problem is not with you but with the other side that hurts."

How do you use social networks to promote fair discourse?

Or Yaakov

: "In many ways. First of all, I share tips and insights in my stories and in the posts I create. I raise awareness of many issues, including boycotts (which I went through as a child), bullying, self-love, self-confidence and developing good relationships. Sometimes if I encounter a case of In cyberbullying, I help the victim, publish it on my site and make a video that raises awareness. I help him get a positive response and change the situation."

Shir Popovitz

: "I answer every message on Instagram and comment on Tiktok because the people are more important to me than anything."

Alice Zano

: "I made several videos that talk about cases of bullying that I personally experienced and I also touched on the subject of racism in several videos. It is mainly important for me to empower and focus on positive things. I strongly believe that thought creates reality, so it is important to be positive and focus on the good, since social networks are taking up more and more space in our lives ".

What content is important for you to promote on social networks and why?

Or Ya'akov

: "It's important to me to promote content that helps people deal mentally well with all kinds of moments in life, and also funny content of course. I really believe that laughter is the key to happiness, as is lightness and a healthy attitude. Humor saved me and continues to serve as my anchor even today."

Shir Popovitz

: "It's important to me that we all really talk and see each other equally and with a lot of love, respect and humor."

What do you think social networks will look like a decade from now?

Or Ya'akov

: "I have no idea, but I'm sure it will be crazy. I believe that life in general in a decade will be very different. Technology will change completely and what we know today will be like the giant television with the antenna of the past."

Popovitz song

: "I wish we learn to love each other online and express criticism out of love and understanding that we are not all the same and we really won't try to change anyone. We will look at ourselves and try to be the best version of ourselves, towards ourselves and towards our friends."
