Coronation of King Charles III: Meghan Markle will stay in California with her two children

2023-04-13T12:47:56.289Z

It's official, Meghan Markle will miss the coronation of King Charles III. But according to the English-language press, the Duchess of Sussex would have a good excuse: her son Archie is celebrating his 4th birthday that day.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Wednesday April 12 that Prince Harry will attend his father's coronation ceremony on May 6.

Only downside, the latter will come alone.

His wife Meghan Markle chose to stay at their home in Montecito, California with their children, Archie and Lilibet.

To justify her absence, everything suggests that the Duchess of Sussex would have invoked her son's 4th birthday, the date of which coincides with the day of his grandfather's coronation, advance the sites People and The Mirror this Wednesday

"The Perfect Excuse"

The biographer and friend of the couple, Omid Scobie, confirms to our colleagues from

The Mirror

this information.

According to him, it is certain that this anniversary “played a role in the decision” of Meghan Markle to stay in California.

And it is also for this same reason that her husband, Prince Harry, will make a “fairly quick trip to the United Kingdom”.

"Archie's birthday provided the perfect excuse for Meghan to stay behind and, all things considered, it's probably the right thing to do," adds Omid Scobie in the columns of The

Mirror

.

The biographer refers here to the tensions between the royal family and the Duchess of Sussex, who declared, among other things, to have been the victim of racism in the Windsor clan.

Despite these dissensions, Charles III would indeed have welcomed the news with bitterness.

"It's sad, he's very disappointed not to see Meghan or her grandchildren, but he understands the situation," an unnamed source told The

Sun.

The sovereign is nevertheless satisfied to see his youngest son again, even briefly.

If the festivities will last three days, Prince Harry should only attend the coronation ceremony.

It is not yet known if he will be present on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the event.
