Dengue: confirm the first two deaths in the Capital and there are already 35 throughout the country

2023-04-15T22:01:13.613Z

These are two men, one 73 years old and the other 76, both with comorbidities. The number of deaths from the virus is record.

Two people

died from dengue in the city of Buenos Aires

, as detailed this Saturday in the latest Epidemiological Bulletin of the National Ministry of Health and confirmed by the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health.

They are the first registered deaths in this district due to the virus transmitted by the

Aedes aegypi

mosquito , which already has at least 35 fatalities in the country.

The dead in Capital are two men, one 76 years old and the other 73, in both cases with

comorbidities

.

The 76-year-old died at the Zubizarreta hospital, after spending 48 hours in the critical care unit with multi-organ failure that, despite treatment, "evolved with refractory shock," spokesmen for the Buenos Aires ministry detailed.

He had arrived at the health center after 10 days of evolution of the dengue disease, a picture of fever, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting that had

worsened in the previous 24 hours

.

This is a patient who lived in Commune 11 -in the western part of the City- and who had obesity "

without health control

in recent years", indicated from City Health.

On admission to the institution, the presence of atrial fibrillation with high ventricular response was verified, with hemodynamic decompensation.

This week, from the Ministry of Health they had indicated to this newspaper that they were aware of the case but had not confirmed it because the studies had not yet been completed to determine if dengue had indeed been the cause of death.

The second confirmed case is that of

a 73-year-old man who lived in the Palermo neighborhood

and had high blood pressure and obesity as risk factors.

He passed away after spending 24 hours in a sanatorium critical care unit.

The man had also made a first consultation in a private center, due to

cardiac symptoms

.

"He had a pre-syncopal picture, with a supraventricular tachyarrhythmia that reverted spontaneously and without criteria for defining a suspected dengue case," the Health portfolio reported.

Four days later, he consulted again for a picture of fever and headaches, which would lead to his hospitalization.

"Due to suspicion of dengue infection, an NS1 antigen test was requested, which was positive," the ministry said.

death record

The 27 deaths at the national level confirmed in the Epidemiological Bulletin are

a record

, surpassing the record of the largest dengue epidemic that the country had so far, that of 2020, with 26 deaths.

The other great epidemic, in 2016, had a total of 11 fatal cases.

However, this figure is

outdated

due to delays in data loading, since the official count kept by the jurisdictions

reports so far 35 deaths from dengue

.

In addition to the two deceased in CABA, there are 10 in Salta, 9 in Tucumán, 5 in Santa Fe, 4 in Jujuy, 2 in Córdoba, 1 in the province of Buenos Aires, 1 in Santiago del Estero and 1 in Entre Ríos.
