What is tuci: the 'pink cocaine' that is consumed at the top night and this year was linked to three deaths

2023-04-15T10:24:51.662Z

The case of the Brazilian model who died in Retiro once again put the focus on this synthetic drug. They warn that it began to be detected more in the last two years.

Fifteen days ago, Emmily Rodrigues Santos Gomes died after falling from the sixth floor of a building in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires.

Justice investigates whether it was a homicide or if it was a suicide in the context of hallucinations due to drug use.

While the businessman of the farm owner of that department, Francisco Sáenz Valiente (52), is still detained, the result of the autopsy of the 26-year-old Brazilian model

points directly to the tuci

.

It is the drug that she consumed in a night that started at the Gardiner restaurant, continued at the Isabel de Palermo bar and

ended in the worst way at 1542 Libertad street

.

What is Tuci?

Same substance with different name?

Is it "new" among the designer ones?

What are its effects?

Also, how is the sales circuit for this

"pink cocaine"

?

"It aims at a specific target. They are not adolescent consumers, not at all. Young adults

use it , from the wealthy class,"

Carlos Damin, head of the Toxicology Service at the Fernández Hospital,

told

Clarín .

It must be remembered that in January of this year tuci also appeared in the news because a bag of this substance

was found

in one of the cars in the fatal crash in which two friends died in Punta del Este, Micaela Trinidad (26) and María Josefina Ferro (27).

Of "new", says Damin, "it has nothing".

It has been circulating for 15 years in Argentina.

Not unique, either.

Its name is pure marketing.

The pink color is given with dyes.

In Argentina, the tuci does not contain 2C-B as in Europe.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Synthetic Drugs and New Psychoactive Substances, "pink cocaine" is a

drug of "variable content"

.

Products called

“tuci”, “tucibi” or “pink or pink cocaine”

are described as not necessarily containing the drug 2C-B (phenylethylamine) “but often combinations of different substances”.

So, it is known as tusi, tuci or tucibi -because of how it is pronounced in English 2C-B-, but it may be that what is consumed, even if it is powder and pink, does not have 2C-B.

It usually contains ketamine (the veterinary drug) instead of cocaine or 2C-B.

The "original" pink cocaine that began to be consumed years ago in Europe

had 2C-B

.

In the Old Continent you can now get that "pura", which is much more expensive, and also this "mixture" that circulates in Argentina.

As Clarín

learned

, the tuci samples seized and analyzed in our country in 2019 contained ketamine and MDMA.

In others in 2021 and 2022 , MDMA, methamphetamine, ketamine and/or caffeine and xylocaine

were found

.

It is not clear if drug dealers seek to mimic the

stimulant and hallucinogenic effects

of 2C-B with these combinations of substances.

"Its presence is alternating in the country, that is, it is not detected permanently,

except in the last two years

. It is normally made up of two substances:

a stimulant

(derived from methamphetamine, such as MDMA) and

some hallucinogen

(usually ketamine)," continues Damin.

The so-called "pink cocaine" has nothing chemically similar to cocaine.

Only that it is a powder and that it is inhaled.

The pink color is from a dye

.

Its "presentation" in pills, which exists in other countries, was not seen here.

And speaking of names, before she was also called

Venus, Bromo, Erox or Bees

.

2C-B is a hallucinogenic phenethylamine that became popular in the United States in the mid-1980s.

"Its effect is stimulating, depersonalizing (feeling of distancing and dissociation from oneself and the environment) and, of course,

euphoric

, which is the main reason why tuci is inhaled," explains the specialist.

Although it is

synthetic

, this drug is similar to LSD and other hallucinogenic substances of plant origin.

The effects last between four and eight hours.

Tuci is

10 times more expensive than cocaine

and, like any drug for fun, it is sold through dealers who, whether coded or not, coordinate delivery via WhatsApp.

It also produces "uncomfortable" changes, as described in toxicology, in body temperature, which on many occasions leads consumers to have

the reflex to undress completely in public

in order to seek relief.

If this pink cocaine is consumed with other substances it is

extremely dangerous

, even with alcohol intake.

"It can cause changes in the heart, such as arrhythmias, or in the brain. But in the case of hallucinations, which can be terrifying,

they can end the patient's life

."

Emmily Rodrigues, the 26-year-old Brazilian girl who died when she fell from a sixth floor on Libertad Street at 1500, in the City of Buenos Aires.

At Fernández there were

isolated cases

of patients who came to the guard due to tuci poisoning.

"They are not frequent. Of 10 intoxicated, 5 are due to alcohol, 2.5 due to cocaine, 1 due to designer drugs and 1.5 due to the intake of psychotropic drugs," Damin closes.

Emily's death

The tuci is once again in the spotlight for the night of excesses that ended in the death of the Brazilian model in Retiro.

There was a 911 call from a neighbor who referred to a screaming woman and another from the owner of the apartment from which Emmily, a Brazilian model, fell to her death.

In that meeting there was a man and four women.

Lía Figueroa Alves (36), a friend of Sáenz Valiente who testified days ago as a witness before the prosecutor in the Santiago Vismara case, assured that that night Emmily "was like the exorcist" and that she immediately thought of leaving for her safety.

She was the first to arrive, but she did not witness the moment when the young woman fell from the balcony.

Just minutes before three in the morning, Juliana Magalhaes Mourao, Dafne and Emmily arrived and began to listen to loud music, drink

alcohol and use drugs

.

She assured that there was no "sexual approach", but admitted that at one point, Emmily took off her shirt, took off her shoes and was left with only the jean on.

Figueroa Alves also declared that that night they drank vodka, gin and also that they consumed

cocaine and tuci

.

Ignacio Trimarco is the lawyer representing the parents of the deceased model, who do not believe that Emmily has thrown herself off the balcony.

Her friends on social networks are also seeking Justice and point out that "Emmily was killed."
