Iconic food of Made in Italy food, candies are closely linked to our memory, so much so that for 4 out of 10 Italians (41%), they bring to light situations and significant events from their past, especially from childhood, as told by one recent research by Bva Doxa - Unione Italiana Food.
Among the memories that refer to candies, the research highlights, Italians indicate the scents and flavors of when they were little (41%), moments of joy and celebration (31%), afternoons at home (24%), travel by car (23%), and finally family members (23%).
Candies are a food capable of crossing generations and meet, thanks to their versatility, everyone's tastes, with some differences.
From the Bva Doxa - Unione Italiana Food study it emerges that millennials (from 26 to 41 years old) and Generation Z (under 25) prefer classic candies with sugar (53%), while "sugar-free" is a type chosen on average more from Generation X (60%) to which Italians aged 42 to 57 belong.
If peppermint (62%) and licorice (48%) candies are a prerogative of Baby Boomers (aged 58 to 77), we find that Gen X has a soft spot for citrus candies (50%).
While flavors such as caramel (26%) and cola (29%) attract Gen Z young people more than average.
Among the types of candies, soft and gummy (35%) are the favorites above all by Millennials and GenZ while Generation X, compared to the others, loves geleé more (52%).
