In order to get more people to take public transport to work, the federal government supports the 49-euro job ticket.
If employers subsidize their employees at least 25 percent for the ticket, the federal government contributes another five percent.
Employees only have to pay 34.30 euros instead of 49 euros for the monthly Germany ticket.
The federal government has promised this support until the end of 2024.
If employees already have job tickets: the 49-euro ticket makes it even cheaper
According to the federal government, employees who already drive to work with a job ticket do not have to take action themselves.
Customers who are already using a similar ticket will be informed by Deutsche Bahn about the new offer and can then decide which subscription they would like to use in the future.
Most job tickets, as well as the subscription to the Germany ticket, can be canceled on a monthly basis.
This is how employers benefit: The 49-euro ticket for employees is deductible
Employees benefit from the cheaper Germany ticket, and the bottom line is that companies don’t have to invest much for it.
Those who either subsidize the 49-euro ticket for employees or assume the costs in full can deduct these expenses from their taxes.
"Expenditures by the employer for its employees are generally deductible as operating expenses under Section 4 (4) of the Income Tax Act," a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Finance explained to

These expenses also include the provision of a job ticket.
