The small hole in the refrigerator that can turn out to be a real power guzzler is the condensation drain.

Condensation is constantly forming inside the refrigerator.

To a certain extent, this is not unusual.

Water droplets collect on the back wall and flow out through the small hole.

At the rear of the unit, a collection tank above the compressor collects the drained water.

The heat generated by the compressor causes the condensed water to evaporate.

In order for condensation to drain away unhindered, the hole and the associated drain channel must be regularly cleaned of dust and other dirt.

Otherwise the water will collect on the shelves and small puddles will form.

That's how it's done:

Have a cotton swab, wooden stick, or small bottle brush ready.

Never use knives or other sharp objects - they could cause damage.

Now try to use it to pull the dirt out of the hole and clean it.

Finally, soak a cotton swab in some vinegar and use it to disinfect the hole.

If you discovered mold when cleaning the drain hole, you should also defrost and thoroughly clean the refrigerator.
