The Government confirmed that during the current dengue season, which ends in the middle of the year,
the country will not have
the Japanese vaccine against dengue, approved this Wednesday by ANMAT.
The news was released at the same time that three new deaths
were confirmed
: the third in Córdoba, the ninth in Santa Fe and the first in Chaco.
The number of fatalities in the country
more than doubles
the number recorded in what had been the record season for dengue up to now, that of 2019-20, when there were
26 deaths
.
Now the number
reaches 53
.
Despite the delicate scenario, the good news is that everything would indicate that the epidemic has
begun to subside
.
This means that the growth of the case curve rises more slowly than in previous weeks, something that had already been suggested in the National Epidemiological Bulletin published last Saturday: the Ministry of Health reported that the peak had occurred in week 13
(
26 from March to April 1).
In week 14 , a decrease in cases
close to 38 percent
was already registered , compared to the increase that occurred the previous seven days.
There is no national information about what happened in the following weeks (week 17 is now in progress), but provincial reports confirm that
the downward trend continues
.
This occurs when the number of cases has already climbed to
more than 77,000

In this context, it was reported that the Takeda vaccine, approved
after 18 months of waiting at ANMAT
, will not be available in the country until September, which means that it could only be used in a possible
next epidemic
.

Vaccine supply times, according to the Government, now
depend on the laboratory

“It will establish the protocols for the start of the production process for sending a batch to our country.
When this happens, Argentina will be in a position to receive this shipment for its
subsequent commercialization
in national territory”, said sources from the Ministry.
That's the other novelty: in order to access the vaccine, people would have to
buy it
.
How much will the vaccine cost in Argentina?
Statements by Christophe Weber, president and CEO of Takeda, cited by the Bloomberg Línea site, offer some clues in this regard: for example, that the vaccine in Indonesia and Brazil has a lower cost than in Germany.
The two-dose scheme would cost
$80
for the buyer's pocket , against the $238 it costs in the European country.
Although the price for Argentina has not yet been officially confirmed by the laboratory -whose local representatives maintain strict secrecy-, it is estimated that the value could be similar to that of Brazil.
Another question that is not clear is whether the laboratory and the Government will negotiate the possibility of introducing the vaccine into
public immunization programs
, at least for the most vulnerable population, as Takeda announced that it intends to do so with Indonesia and Brazil.
