Pole position for Charles Leclerc's Ferrari for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix scheduled for Sunday on the Baku street circuit.
The Monegasque of Ferrari preceded the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
Fourth time and second row for the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz.
"We arrived at this weekend thinking it would be very positive to be ahead of Mercedes and Aston Martin in qualifying. In the end we are on pole, it's a positive surprise even if in the race I think we will still be one step behind the Red Bulls".
Charles Leclerc will start ahead of everyone in Sunday's Azerbaijan GP, but he realistically warns that Red Bull will always make the difference between pole position and the race.
"It was a very demanding weekend for us drivers, we had little time to test, but the feeling was good right from the start and so I'm very happy" added the Ferrari driver.
On the other hand, the departure in Baku for teammate Carlos Sainz was more complicated: "It was a difficult day, I've already struggled since free practice. I lacked pace and confidence.
Every time I took a step forward, I made a mistake and went back.
Too bad because in Australia I did much better.
Due to the mistakes I made I ended up using an extra set of tires and that didn't help either.
My fault anyway.
Unfortunately, the car is now in parc fermé regime, so we don't have the possibility to fully understand what happened".
