The National Meteorological Service (SMN) today issued
yellow alerts for winds and storms
for thirteen provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA).
The storm and wind warning applies to CABA, and the provinces of Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos, while the wind warning applies to Córdoba, Santa Fe, San Luis, Santiago del Estero, Tucumán, La Rioja, Catamarca, San Juan, Mendoza, La Pampa and Neuquen.
The yellow level of alert implies that it is about "possible meteorological phenomena with
the capacity to cause damage and risk
of momentary interruption of daily activities," indicated the SMN.
After noon, the SMN meteorologist, Cindy Fernández, reported that at 12:30 p.m. some storms and showers had already begun in the AMBA and that "some of them could be strong."
In turn, she clarified that they are isolated, so the phenomena will not affect everyone equally.
"In places where the storms are more intense, there can also be some heavy downpour, hail or gusts for a short period," he added, detailing that a cold front will then arrive, which will cause a sharp drop in temperature.
In La Plata, the Municipality established the "Yellow" Risk Attention Level (NAR) due to rainfall and winds expected during the day this Sunday, and activated prevention tasks with the cleaning of drains and monitoring of weather conditions, official sources reported.
The areas under yellow alert this Sunday for storms and winds, according to the warning of the National Weather Service.
In a statement, the local Hydrometeorology Directorate reported: "We are under the 'Yellow' Risk Attention Level due to strong winds with maximum gusts of 70 km/h and storms of varying intensity, some strong this Sunday afternoon."
In this context, the Municipal Emergency Operating Committee (COEM) was convened, which established an articulated action plan and advised to avoid driving on public roads and, in case of doing so in vehicles, drive slowly and with dim headlights on.
The weather in the AMBA
In addition to the forecast of rain and storms, for this Sunday a temperature of between 15 and 25 degrees maximum is expected in the AMBA.
On Monday, a holiday for International Worker's Day, a day with clear skies and a temperature of 9 degrees minimum and 18 maximum is expected.
Clear skies are also expected on Tuesday with a minimum of 8 degrees and a maximum of 18 degrees.
