Parents caused an uproar online after a viral video showed them covering their newborn baby in hundred dollar bills - with many followers freaking out over what they called the 'blanket of germs' covering the baby.

The hours-old baby was seen lying in a crib at the hospital while an older man - apparently a family member - showered the child with a pile of cash in the crib.

Although a blanket covered the baby's body, he was also covered with a stack of $100 bills, the ordeal sent social media into a frenzy as people pointed out how dirty money is.

And they are right.

Money bills can carry more germs than you'll find in a household toilet - and hundreds of species of microorganisms can live on the money for days.

"What's wrong with a savings account?"

The video, which has already garnered over 10 million views, included comments from people, angry people.

One person wrote: "You made a germ blanket for a newborn."

Other internet users joked that the baby's immune system would likely be excellent after being exposed to so many germs from such an early age.

Another commenting on the viral video wrote: "The baby hasn't been in the world for more than 28 minutes and you put dirty money on your baby. You might as well go to Chipotle for the trash, grab some napkins and throw them in your baby's face if you think that's okay." .

Instead of showering the child with the money, one user wrote: "Umm... what's wrong with a savings account???".
