May Day demonstrations: major parades in major cities?

MAP – According to the intelligence services, nearly 100,000 people are expected in Paris, around 20,000 in Caen and Nantes and 10,000 in Lyon, Toulouse and Marseille.


What will be the scale of the mobilizations in the big cities for this May 1, Labor Day but also, and above all, a new day of struggle against the pension reform according to the inter-union?

If the last demonstrations had marked a breathlessness of the social movement with only 380,000 people parading in the street on Thursday April 13, the centrals wish to make this Monday a new highlight of the protest.

Between 500,000 and 650,000 individuals are expected in the 300 processions in France, including 80,000 to 100,000 in the capital.

In other regional cities, Caen and Nantes could see 20,000 angry citizens gather.

10,000 to 15,000 would be in the processions in Lyon, Toulouse and Marseille... Some "

medium-sized cities

" will not be left out: 5,000-6,000 people should parade in Lorient (Morbihan), Cherbourg (Manche) or Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes ).

Last year, 116,500 people demonstrated on May Day, including 24,000 in Paris.

They were only 106,000 in 2022 and 164,000 in 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic having led to the cancellation of the parades in 2020.
