Torchlight processions in the squares and lights lit in the wards, mourning banners and even a scholarship for young doctors named in his memory.

After remembering on the stage of the concert on May 1st,

Italy pays tribute to Barbara Capovani, the psychiatrist killed in Pisa

.

From her city to Palermo, from Bolzano to Messina, from Turin to Rome, dozens of squares will host initiatives in memory of her.

All events organized with the support of the Provincial Orders of Doctors and the Italian Society of Psychiatry (Sip), with the support of other professional and scientific societies, with a single objective: to raise awareness among the population and institutions on the issue of violence in the workplace of healthcare.

Yesterday, with a long post on his Fb page, her

partner, Michele Bellandi publicly recalled her

: "You were so small, but in reality a true giant: you entered the life of others on tiptoe and changed it forever - we read - : your courage and your intuition, your desire to help made you able to understand situations and always find solutions for everyone. So in an instant you became a point of reference".

"No threat, no offense, scratched you", continues the companion, and "you never acted out of personal interest but only with the idea and concern of making your patients feel good, protecting your colleagues, precisely with the idea to 'do the right thing'".

There will be

lights on throughout the night of May 3

in all the mental health services of Calabria to "commemorate a colleague who died for her work and 'illuminate' the attention, between clinical and organizational priorities, safety at work for mental health workers".

In Campobasso, the Medici Order will mourn a banner on the headquarters to remember the Pisan colleague.

In Milan, the doctors will meet in Piazza della Scala.

"Barbara's murder - observes the president of the Society of Psychiatry, Emi Biondi - definitively opened our eyes to a dramatic condition that each of us experiences every day on the front line and at every level in care contexts. Our structures , as well as those of health in general, have become places of danger and anguish".

For specialists, psychiatry

has been exposed to cuts and downsizing of structures for years

and "the increase in referrals to the services of offenders is shifting the problems of prisons and Rems to other psychiatry structures, forcing it to deal with those who cannot abide by the rules of normal coexistence".

A situation, concludes Biondi, "no longer acceptable".

Tomorrow, in Pisa, the Pisan medical association will also present

a scholarship named after Barbara Capovani

and aimed at young doctors in a public meeting with experts and insiders scheduled for 6 pm in the chamber of commerce auditorium.

The national president of the Federation of doctors, Filippo Anelli, will also speak.

And at 20 there will be a torchlight procession in the square.

Meanwhile, a provincial committee at the prefecture of Pisa has decided on "

intensified supervisory measures in health facilities

with particular attention to those considered most at risk".
