As is well known, many things have become more expensive, and not only in the supermarket.

Some also rub their eyes in amazement at one or the other ice cream parlour.

You want to treat yourself to a scoop of ice cream in spring.

However, some of the prices have risen this year, as the German Press Agency (dpa) reports – because many ice cream parlors or ice cream parlors are struggling with sharply increased expenses.

Inflation isn't just noticeable in supermarkets, where many groceries are known to have become significantly more expensive.

Prices for a scoop of ice cream have increased in some cases this year

Even when licking ice cream, some may have rubbed their eyes in amazement these days, when they may well have paid a little more for a scoop of ice cream than in the previous year and, for example, in the big cities of Berlin or Munich, here or there also around two euros.

According to the report, there are many reasons for the price increases over the years: in contrast to the freezer compartment in the supermarket, fresh products, preferably organic, play a greater role in the delicacies from the ice cream parlour.

"The quality has increased significantly," says Gerhard Schenk, President of the German Confectioners' Association, according to dpa.

And good ingredients have their price.

Increased energy prices, more expensive milk, higher personnel costs

The ball from the ice cream parlor consists of up to 70 percent milk and almost ten percent cream, which in turn is made from milk, explains Uniteis, the association of Italian ice cream makers in Germany, according to dpa.

And milk prices rose in 2022 as a result of the war in Ukraine.

The work in the ice cream parlors has also changed over time.

There is, for example, increased personnel costs.

But the rents for the shops have also risen and recently electricity costs, for example, as a spokeswoman for Uniteis also describes, according to the dpa report.

"The idea that ice cream should be so dirt cheap is just unrealistic."

According to Gerhard Schenk dpa, there is bureaucracy behind every ice ball.

The President of the Confectioners' Association speaks of "madness".

Examples: The spatial requirements for making ice cream are immense.

The temperature of an ice chest must be checked several times a day.

Since everything has to be documented, it costs "time that has to be paid for," he calculates, according to the report.

Some ice cream parlors stayed at prices from the previous year

Some ice cream parlors remained at the prices from the previous year, dpa reported at the same time, for example, on the occasion of a survey in Saxony-Anhalt - even if the producer prices for ice cream increased by around 28 percent this year according to the Federal Statistical Office.

In the federal state mentioned, the price for a scoop of ice cream at the start of the season has risen in many places.

Customers would have to spend between 20 and 50 cents more this year, as the random survey by the dpa among ice cream parlors in Saxony-Anhalt showed.
