Cinco de Mayo, Mexico: cocktails with tequila that you can make at home, based on tequila Vulcan. Three easy cocktails to make at home with soda, Paloma, tonic and mixes >>>

Cinco de Mayo celebrations, Israel (Kiss and Tell & Details)

It's neither the morbid but carnivalesque Day of the Dead nor Mexico's Independence Day (although many tend to confuse the two. September 16, take note), but Cinco de Mayo somehow manages to take the best of both, add honor to the dead and joy of life to the living, and mix it all up into a spectacular and delicious colorful fiesta.

Mexico after all.

It was celebrated, as could perhaps be deciphered from its name, on May 5, the day of victory of General Ignacio Zaragoza's troops who went out to fight in 1862 against the French army held in Puebla.

Zaragoza died months later of illness, and a larger French force regained imperial control and captured Mexico City, but the mythology is alive and well, concerned with the morale of an unyielding citizenry.

Over the years, the holiday became a symbol of the American-Mexican cultural fusion, and in the 1980s it gained another resonance, capitalist of course, with countless advertisements for beer, wine and tequila.

And speaking of tequila, why don't we join in the festivities too?

The local Cinco de Mayo events will flood Israel with Vulcan pours, a tequila brand that was recently launched in Israel by Espirit, and is already planting bottles in restaurants and bars. The plan, in general terms,

is professional workshops in specialized stores, happy parties and a lot of cocktails. Today (Thursday, 4 May) Dalal Restaurant will offer a special Mexican-inspired menu and with five tequila mixes, tomorrow (Friday, May 5, 11:00-15:00) George Abdo (GDB) and Vespper will team up for a taco and pour event, the Moshu Bar will put together a special menu Based on the tequila at NIS 55 per cocktail, Delida Bar will extend the celebrations for two weeks, and Herzl will shoot 16 with a performance by a Mexican band on May 17.

Apart from these, there will be guided tastings led by Elder Gabbay from Espirit, in which the differences between tequila and mezcal will be discussed, for example.

Those who miss this happy calendar of events, and also those who will be present, are invited to transfer the celebrations to the home bar, with the help of three easy recipes based on tequila, which will keep him in the right mood long after the relevant date on the calendar.

Happy holiday, and cheers!
