The Justice partially upheld an appeal from the National Parks Administration and a man who
illegally hunted a jaguar in Formosa
in December 2022 could have to pay
370 million pesos
.
The Federal Chamber of Resistance Appeals ruled in favor of the APN's request and ordered the replacement of "the oath bond with a real one", the amounts of which must be set by the federal judge from Formosa.
On December 19, the defendant hunted a 150-kilo specimen after chasing it for hours near Clorinda and then
published his "feat" on social networks
, for which, in the first instance, he was denounced by the NGO Red Yaguareté before federal justice for the criminal nature of the illegal hunting of protected species.

Both the National Parks Administration and Red Yaguareté, the Provincial Prosecutor's Office and the Public Prosecutor's Office filed an objection to the original bond before Federal Court No. 1 of Formosa, arguing that it was "insufficient".
“We are going to act firmly, this is a crime against nature, and we are going to apply all the weight that the law allows in this and other cases like this one,” the federal judge 1 of that province, Pablo Morán, had assured in statements to

de Formosa.
The reason: "there are sufficient elements for the defendant to respond cautiously with his assets."
In addition, it is intended to be an "exemplary and crucial sentence to stop the hunting of specimens of the species, which generally go unpunished and without consequences for hunters," says the APN.

The APN Conservation team, through the head of the Natural Resources program, María Graziani, made the economic calculation of the environmental damage caused by the loss of this specimen, which was validated by the agency's NEA regional director, Daniel Crosta.
The monetary estimate of said damage, a calculation that involves various aspects and environmental and economic variables, resulted in something more than 370 million pesos.
The defendant, whose identity was not disclosed, had weapons, ammunition and other objects of interest related to the illegal hunting of a jaguar in his home, which was raided at the beginning of the case.
During his account of how he hunted the animal, recorded with image and sound on his cell phone, the man
described his victim as "unhappy" and "a gigantic male
. "
"Finally we were able to kill him here with the boys
," he had added.
